Billy Dewayne Stokes, was born Oct. 24, 1946, in Eureka, Kansas, and died March 10, 2024 in Dustin at the age of 77.
He was drafted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. His patriotism continued through the years as he became the Commander of American Legion Post 144 in Dustin. He served on the Dustin Activities Council.
Billy worked in various professions. He was a talented and self-employed plumber, truck driver, diesel mechanic, heavy equipment operator, and in lawn care. He married Cornelia Thomas March 18, 1973, and lived in the Dustin Community since 1980. Together, they raised a family that mirrored their values and love: children, Brandy Stokes, Jonathan Stokes, Tony Fish, and Sherry Scull. His legacy continued with grandchildren, Jett Lee Stokes and Jasper Ray Buchanan.
He was a brother to Delmer Lee (Pete) Stokes, Jr. and wife Jill, Theresa Hawkins, Mark Stokes, Edward Stokes, and wife Claudia.
His parents, Delmer Lee Stokes, and Audra Leola (Hill) Stokes, preceded Billy in death.
Viewing for Billy will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2024 at Integrity Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Jean Stokes, Zak Hawkins, Jimmy Buchanan, Darryll Quesenbury, George Howard and Rocky Kissee.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Dustin Cemetery with Rev. Bob Wingo and Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Services are under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
