The annual HHS senior girls tea was held at the First United Methodist church sponsored by the Beta Sigma Phi sorority Tuesday afternoon.
First started by the 21st Century Club, a women’s organization that was involved in school and civic activities throughout Henryetta. At one time, the tea was held in the member’s homes with the senior girls arriving in formal attire down to high heels and gloves.
Later the Beta Sigma Phi sorority stepped in to keep it going and moved the event to the Methodist church.
Following in the over 70-year-long tradition, each of the senior girls were presented their own tea cup and saucer as a souvenir of the occasion.
This year Loren Smith, a 2013 HHS graduate, was the guest speaker.
Following high school, she went on to get degrees and start a teaching career. That has evolved into cartoon art and even a book author.
She told the girls to never quit learning and not worry about problems that may arise. “Every set back is a chance to learn,” she said.
