Two burglary suspects were arrested just after midnight Thursday morning after Henryetta police officer Joey Cantrell stopped them walking along the street.
According to police chief Steve Norman, Cantrell was on patrol in the 700 block of West Cummings. "He noticed a man and woman wearing dark clothing and carrying some bags. When officer Cantrell approached them, he said they appeared very nervous so he began questioning them."
The subsequent interview led him to believe they had just committed a burglary a few blocks away on West Merrick.
The two, Carissa Sileo, 24, and Travis Vaughn, 24, were arrested and booked into the Okmulgee County jail on complains of second degree burglary.
"This is an example of officer Cantrell's good proactive police work that really paid off," the chief said. "He has been on the force for the past two years and has been a real asset.
"Our night shift officers have been focusing on the neighborhoods and have made several arrest there recently. We are watching out for anyone walking around neighborhoods late at night. If you are walking through a neighborhood late at night, be prepared to have an officer make contact with you."
