The 13-year-old spent four days at Rogers, Ark., accompanied by Gayle Machetta.
Smallwood was a cart caddy in the annual tournament pro-am scramble assigned to Julie Yang. She was surprised on the last hole when Yang and teammate John Ross from KTUL-TV, faced a seven-foot putt. Standing at 10 under, Yang and Ross let Smallwood try her hand and she sank it. The two posed for a photo after the scramble.
"She got to see some amazing golf," said Machetta. "this is the seventh year that we have had our Lady Knights send golfers to participate."
Ont he final day of the tournament, she was the standard-bearer for Chella Choi, Lee-Anne Pace and Mika Miyazato.
One of her highlights was watching tournament winner Lydia Ko play. "That was her favorite golfer," said Machetta, "and, when Ko smiled at her, Skylar was beaming."
