george donation
Henryetta middle school students proved that they care about each other.
The students raised over $1,200 to help Nathan George’s family with expenses while he is in New York. George was diagnosed earlier this year with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. It was believed the initial rounds of treatment was successful but in October, the disease came back forcing the Henryetta family to go to Maria Farari Children's Hospital.
That has resulted in the George family facing additional living expenses.
Henryetta students filled up one and two liter bottles with dimes, sold t-shirts and came up with donations to ease the financial strain.
“A one liter plastic bottle holds $100 in dimes, fundraising coordinator Nadine Graham said. “Students learned how something so small can add up so quickly.”
She said the family is staying at a Ronald McDonald House in New York and she has started another drive to help raise money for that organization as well.
Graham said the aluminum pull tabs from soft drinks and other cans can be collected and taken to McDonalds as a donation. Anyone wishing to donate tabs can contact her at the middle school.
