Area student artists are being invited to compete for a scholarship through the VFW 1189 Auxiliary.
The annual Auxiliary Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Entries should be of a patriotic theme including American flag, military or promoting freedom.
entrants will be competing for a combined total of $21,000 in scholarships, awarding first through eighth place scholarships. Also, students who have their patriotic artwork awarded will have an all-expenses paid trip to the 2017 VFW Auxiliary National Convention for their art and themselves to be recognized, awarded, and thanked for their participation.
Students must be a US citizen and no older than 18 at the time of their entry. They do not have to be related to a VFW or VFW Auxiliary member to participate, but the student must attend school in the same state as the sponsoring VFW Auxiliary.
Art must be on paper or canvas. Water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink or oil may be used.
Digital art and photography is not accepted. All entries should be o smaller than 8” x 10” but no larger than 18” x 24,” not including the mat.
Entries must be submitted to the Okmulgee VFW Auxiliary post no later than March 31.
