Shown with their creation are members of the Wilson Robotics team. They include: left to right, Hannah Tarkington, Darrick Lehmkuhl, Bailey Lehmkuhl, Ally Neep, John Mahan, Braden Williams (sitting), Savannah Barnes, and Whitney King.
The Wilson First Robotics team, Roarbots 3163, has been building a robot for the FRC Robotics for six weeks. Work on the robot came to an end last week when the student's handiwork was bagged and tagged in preparation for the contest.
The students and their robot will be judged  by FIRST Robotics, so we are able to compete in the competition March 25 through 27 in Oklahoma City. The theme for the competition this year is RECYCLE RUSH. The robots must be able to stack totes on top of each other and put a pool noodle in a recycling bin.
According to Laura Buell, the students not only have been building a robot, but also building character. "FRC Robotics teaches students patience and cooperation with the ones around us," she said. "These are qualities that will help us, as students, later on in life. Gracious professionalism, the motto of FRC Robotics, is a characteristic that is worked on daily in the robotics room at Wilson Public Schools.
When the Roarbots 3163 went to the Gordon Cooper campus to work on the robot with other teams, they received help from the Green Country Technology team 4933 and the 2341 SPROCKETS.
