The combination of snow, ice and hill at Warden Camp Road resulted in this four-vehicle accident Monday. Police say many of the side streets have a layer of ice under the snow making driving dangerous.
No one was hurt in the crash that blocked the road for over an hour.
Police officers responded to a number of other minor accidents all around town during the late afternoon and evening hours.
"We would encourage everyone to stay off the roads and get out only if they have to," said police chief Steve Norman.
Icy roads helped contribute to a crash Monday evening that injured a Henryetta man.
According to the Oklahoma Highway patrol, Joseph White was driving east on SH 56 around 7:30 when his 2003 pickup went off the roadway and hit a tree.
The 20-year-old White was taken to Okmulgee Memorial Hospital for treatment of head injuries.
Even though the Henryetta area escaped the weekend blast of snow and ice, the white stuff came to town Monday morning.
By mid-afternoon, the streets were covered making the driving hazardous.
Both Third and Fifth Street hills were closed because of icy conditions.
City salt and sanding efforts started Monday morning and continued throughout the day.
The rapidly deteriorating weather conditions led to Tuesday school closings at Henryetta, Dewar, Wilson, Ryal, Graham and Weleetka. School officials said the decision was reached because of dangerous rural bus routes.
ODOT officials reported area highways were slick and hazardous with black ice patches as well as the snow making driving tricky.
