Long-time Henryetta tennis coach Mike Kennedy was inducted into the Oklahoma Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame Saturday.
kennedy awardKennedy came to Henryetta in 1963, coaching here for 16 years. Along the way, he had 28 individual and team state champions as well as six HHS players making state runner up honors. In 1967, he was the coach for the boys and girls state champion teams. “That was a good year for us,” he said.
The induction was held at the Quail Creek Country Club in Oklahoma City with some 200 people present. Included in the audience were over 30 of his former students.
The ceremonies were the second induction for the association. Also placed into the hall of fame were Phil Barnes, Raymond Kelly, Gene Land, Bill Nelson and Frank Ward. Several of those coaches gave tribute to Kennedy.
