Jerry Eugene Rempe was born September 3, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Ben and Lucy (Gunther) Rempe. and died Feb. 28, 2015 in Okemah at the age of 83.
He worked many years as a rancher and farmer. He and Rosemary Turk were married May 18, 1955 in Oklahoma City. Jerry served on the board of trustees for East Central Electric for 20 years. He also served on the Okfuskee County Soil Conservation Board for 50 years and was president for 40 years. He was given the honor of outstanding young farmer with the state of Oklahoma, Farm Family of the Year and was inducted into the Okemah Hall of Fame. He was also on the building committee for the St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Okemah.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Rempe of the home; four sons, Gerald Rempe and wife Kelli of Okemah, Jeff and wife Angie of Henryetta, Jerome Rempe of Tulsa and James and wife Tammy of Prague; two daughters, Katy Ellis and husband Ron of Tahlequah and Anita Vardasco and husband Joe of Broken Arrow; one sister, Maggie Gonzales and husband Robert of San Diego, California; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons, Justin Mitts, Christopher Mitts, Adam Rempe, Eric Rempe, Phillip Desy, Ruben Ellis and Ronnie Ellis.
Honorary bearers include, Pat Martin, Lloyd Pickering, Joe Edgar Cheatwood, Steve Standley, Don Bean and Orvel Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at the Chandler Cemetery.Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Father Peter Phung.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Theresa's Catholic Church of Okemah to BancFirst in care of Jerry Rempe.
