Too often, emergencies arise and help is needed. That can be for medical reasons or law enforcement.
The problem comes when that help is required along a county road where the location is not marked. This results in lost time that can mean the difference in life or death.
“We can’t help you if we can’t find you,” warned Okmulgee County Emergency Management director Mark Conklin.
“GPS is great but it doesn’t always work on county roads.”
Conklin urged anyone living in the rural areas of the county to make sure their addresses are clearly marked.

No local or federal funding is available to purchase those signs but a check on the Internet revealed several sources wth prices ranging from $20 up to $40.
“The numbers need to be seen by anyone coming in either direction and should be on the same side of the road as the house,” he added. “Ideally, a person would have that as part of their mailbox.”
