knights consolation

The HHS Knights earned their Dewar baseball tournament consolation trophy the hard way Saturday.
Playing the Checotah Wildcats, the Knights started out down 2-0 after three innings then came back with three RBIs in the fourth for a 3-2 lead.
From then on it was defensive baseball at its best going into the seventh inning before anyone else scored.
Checotah came up with two runs immediately to tie up the game on a pair of singles then got a third run walked in to take the lead 5-3.
It was the bottom of the seventh when Seth Munoz walked then was thrown out at second after Drew Brown hit his second pitch back to the pitcher but got on first.
Brannon Murphy slammed a double to the left field fence. Brown went to third putting him in scoring position. The second out of the inning came when Hunter Brown flew out to center.
It appeared the Knights would not see a consolation championship when Kalil Lewis nailed a centerfield single on a 2-1 count bringing in Brown and Murphy to tie the game.
Knight catcher Jared Montgomery went 3-1 when he popped a single to left field to drive in Lewis for the win.
The game was in honor of Nathan George, their teammate lost after a ten-month cancer battle. When it was time for photos, the Knights held up George’s jersey as well as a sign saying “Give it to God, Take it for Nate.”
The Knights downed Dewar but were run-ruled by Depew 13-0 and came back to win 12-1 over Weleetka in the opening rounds of the tournament.
