Betty Jo Fife Mouser a resident of Shawnee and formerly of Dustin, died March 3, 2015 in Shawnee at the age of 82. She was born April 29, 1932 in Dustin to Taylor Lowe Fife and Dollie (King).
Betty married J.C. Mouser on March 19, 1949 in Van Buren, Ark. Betty and J.C. moved to Tulsa in 1961. While living in Tulsa, Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother all while running a highly successful culinary gift shop. Betty and J.C. had two daughters, Sandra and Denette, and remained in Tulsa until 1975 when they returned to Dustin where they purchased a farm near Graham School. Betty was a proud member of the Muscogee Creek Nation where her daughter Sandra served the nation as director of Behavioral Health Services and her daughter Denette served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Betty was raised on the family farm north of Dustin with her three sisters, Helen, Geraldine, and Loretta. A younger sister, Marilyn, died in infancy. Betty attended church with her family at Thewarle Indian Baptist Church where her father was a deacon. Upon her mother's passing, Betty and J.C. moved into her childhood home and she lived there until 2013 when she moved to a memory care home in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, J.C., daughter Sandra Choney and husband Chuck, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and daughter Denette Mouser, of Bentonville, Arkansas. She is also survived by her three sisters, Helen Jojola of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Geraldine Wolf of Sand Springs, Loretta Alwert and husband Robert of Enid, and by brother-in-law Hoyle Mouser and wife Lynn, of Wetumka, and sister-in-law LaRue Mahoney of McAlester; three granddaughters, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, all who survive her. Her granddaughters are Jennifer Hopkins, Alysia Jones, and Brooke Kirchner. Her great grandchildren are Taylor Edmonds, Mackenzie Johnson, Cainan Nelson, Jordan White, Tre Davis, Jacob Jones, and Kennedy Kirchner. Her great-great granddaughter is Chesney Edmonds. Betty also leaves behind numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 4-8 at Integrity Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Integrity Chapel in Henryetta with Rev. Eugene Whitlow, officiating. Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
