Over 20 volunteers, young and old, turned out to honor the fallen servicemen and women at Westlawn Cemetery Saturday.
American flags were placed next to the markers for the service members in preparation for the Memorial Day ceremony Monday. That ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. with members of the VFW and American Legion and auxiliaries on hand to place wreaths.
Over 2,000 flags are furnished each year by the Veterans of Froeign Wars Post 539. They mark the final resting place for veterans in Henryetta, Wilson, Sonora and Salem cemeteries.
"We are in need of some more flags," said VFW post commander Bill Goodner. "There are more and more military graves and we want to honor them all."
Anyone wishing to donate to purchase flags should contact Goodner at the VFW.
The volunteers, including members of the Henryetta Boy Scout troop 118, walked across the entire cemetery carefully studying each headstone. Veterans from all wars, dating back to the Civil War are buried there.
