A half-hour pursuit by Henryetta police started in town and ended south of Salem Wednesday night.
According to police chief Steve Norman, the pursuit started when a vehicle said to be driven by Blake Coleman, Henryetta, pulled out of the Jiffy mart parking lot on East Main and nearly struck one of the police cars.
Officers pursued Coleman south on the Lake Road then east toward Salem.
Norman said he performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) after Coleman slammed on his brakes, causing Norman’s vehicle to strike Coleman’s vehicle in the rear.
The PIT maneuver forced Coleman’s car into a ditch rendering it undriveable.
“He got out of his car and tried to run from us on foot,” Norman said. A few minutes later he was taken into custody.
Coleman was booked into the Okmulgee County jail on complaints of driving under the influence, eluding and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
Henryetta police were joined in the chase by officers form McIntosh and Okmulgee County sheriff’s departments as well as Creek nation Lighthorse.
