Houston Hicks, a longtime resident of rural Henryetta, died March 10, 2015 in Tulsa at the age of 88. He was born Nov. 7, 1926 in Salem to Joe Hicks and Ella (Coker) Hicks.
Houston married Eliza Mae Freeman on Christmas Eve and to this union five children were born. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United States Army. He worked for many years as a hydraulic mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base and was a lifetime member of Arbeka Assembly Grounds.
He is preceded in death by his wife Eliza Mae Hicks, sons James Hicks and Tim Hicks. Also by three brothers, Henry Hicks, Homer Hicks and George Hicks, as well as an infant sister.
He is survived by four children: Angela Chavez of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Hicks and wife Sarah of Dewar, Carol Muniz and husband Thomas of Glenpool and Louis Hicks and wife Gloria of Okmulgee; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one brother, Red Hicks of Beggs; also by a host of friends and other relatives.
A wake service will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Integrity Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Hick's grandsons, Buddy Hicks, Jason Hicks, Christopher Muniz, Jerad Hicks, Jeremiah Hicks, Joe Hicks, Billy Beets, and Justin Hicks. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Ty Hicks, Gary Hicks, Johnny Hicks, Watie Fixico, Joe Sulphur, Tom Muniz, Michael Owens, Frank Graffee, Mr. Hick's great grandchildren, and members of the Arbeka Ceremonial Grounds.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Dewar First Baptist Church with Rev. John Wayne Tulsa, Rev. Pat Freeman, and Rev. Dave Long officiating. Interment will follow in New Sonora Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
