Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers are still trying to determine why Karl Matthew Clayton, a resident of Schulter, was killed by a train shortly before noon Saturday.
According to the OHP, the  30-year-old Clayton was seen walking on the tracks just north of the Wilson road overpass by US 75. Jesse Pulliam, the Burlington Northern engineer, told officers he sounded it’s warning horn nearly a mile before striking the individual. Officers said the man never appeared to acknoledge hearing it. The 98-car-long train was unable to stop before striking the man. The victim died at the scene from massive injuries.
Authorities closed the exit from US 75 for nearly five hours while they investigated the incident. The State medical Examiner will be doing an autopsy. .
This is the second time the underpass has been closed this month. On July 1, a large steel beam (shown in the photo above) was knocked onto the ground blocking the roadway. County Emergency Management director Tim Creighton said it is believed a travel trailer or fifth-wheel RV struck the beam.
