Nichols Park will see a new fishing dock as well as other improvements starting Sept. 30.
The Union Sportsmen Alliance is scheduled to come to Henryetta for a weekend of work.
shelter houseLinda Gerstner told city council members Tuesday the work will include removing the old wooden dock and replacing it with a floating metal dock, addition of 15 grills and a new roof on one of the shelter houses.
“A lot of us live around here and have been pushing for something for them to do. “They do one project a year and we have been wanting them to come here for the past three years,” she said.
The shelter house on the east side of the lake will have the old, rusted metal roof removed then union members will rewire the building and remove the graffiti.
She said a breakfast is planned that morning and asked for local volunteers to help with the project.
Members of the Sportsmen Alliance came to Henryetta earlier this summer and toured the park to see what projects they should tackle.
The Union Sportsmens Alliance is a group of trade union members who volunteer their time and skills to work on parks, wildlife habitats and outdoor facilities.
That organization began some ten years ago. It is composed of various unions and members that donate their time and talents to do hands-on projects. Between 2010 and 2016, the organization has completed 88 projects nationwide.
