Several Wilson Lady Tigers attended the recent Northern Oklahoma College Girls Basketball Camp included Autumn Barnard, Kylie Johnston, Terri McCullah and Bailey Weeks.
In High School League, McCullah assisted the Lynx camp team to first place in roadrunner relay, second place in speed dribble relay and third place in two-ball relay. Barnard played for the Monarchs.
In Grades 7-8 League, Johnston played for the Fever and Weeks played for the Comets.
A total of 85 athletes from 30 area schools and from Winfield, Kan., Frisco, Texas, and McKinney, Texas, attended the week-long camp directed by Greg Krause, head coach for the Northern Lady Mavs. They worked on mass drills, station drills and team transition offense skills, including work on floor balance, filling lanes, court spacing, advancing the ball and good shot selection. Campers participated in one-on-one, two-on-two and three-on-three drills; hot shot and free throw contests; and league games.
At an awards assembly concluding the camp, Krause presented individual competition first-place trophies, team and individual place ribbons, and Outstanding Player award plaques. Members of first-place league teams each received a t-shirt printed with the team name and year. Each girl received a certificate of participation, an evaluation of her skills from her camp coach and a camp basketball.
Shane Harland, former executive director of the Ponca City YMCA, assisted Krause with the camp. Also assisting were former Lady Mavs Haley Curfman, Blackwell, Kylee Severin, Goltry; Sydney Ellis, Lawton, now playing for Cameron University; and former Mavericks Brandon Combs, Oklahoma City, and JJ N’Ganga, Paris, France.
Others included returning Lady Mavs Rebekah Hissom, Aledo, Texas, and Kaitlyn Hodgins, Holdenville, and incoming Lady Mav Abby Webster, Deer Creek-Lamont. Also assisting were Jackson Jacobs, Tonkawa; Brittany Ray, Blackwell; Andi McGill, Marietta; and Chloe Mefford, Aledo, Texas.
