What started out as a suspected unattended death is now being looked at as a homicide according to Okmulgee police chief Joe Prentice.
He said officers were sent to a home Monday evening on a call of a strong odor.
When they arrived at the house in the 200 block of South Osage, they discovered a human body that was said to be badly decomposed.
Because of the condition of the body, officers could not detect the cause of death. The victim was sent to the State medical Examiner in Tulsa where he found signs of trauma. The official cause and manner of death is still pending.
Prentice said the victim has been identified as James (Jimmy) Richardson, 47.
“Anyone with information regarding the homicide or anyone who has seen the victim in the past week is asked to contact Okmulgee Police at 918-756-3511,” the chief said.
