Anyone who watches football knows there are times the breaks make a difference. That was the case Friday night in the cross-county rivalry between the Knights and the Morris Eagles.
Statistically, Henryetta dominated the field, racking up 420 offensive yards and dominating most of the second and third quarters offensively. The Eagles scraped together 142 yards gained during the evening but came up with a pair of big plays that gave them the 21-12 win.
Henryetta scored first in the second quarter on a four-yard pass from QB Jarett Day to Avery Moore. It took six minutes before the Eagles capitalized on an interception with Ty Arrington returning it for 85 yards to paydirt. The extra point kick put Morris ahead 7-6 going into the half.
Henryetta had a couple of opportunities in the third quarter to get on the board but the penalty flags set them back, at one point some 32 yards away from a first and goal situation.
In the fourth, Moore took the ball for a 13-yard run across the goal line giving the Knights a five-point advantage, 12-7.
Morris replied with Logan Stacy scoring from 15 yards out and the extra point put the Eagles up 14-12.The bad breaks continued with just over three minutes to go when Eagle Christian Stacy picked off a Henryetta pass and returned it 49 yards for a toughdown. The PAT kick gave Morris what would be the final 21-12 score.
Moore, who returned to the lineup after missing the opening game due to a hamstring injury, got the nod 23 times during the night for a total of 124 yards.
Seth Munoz caught six of nine passes to pick up 113 yards for the Knights.
