There’s going to be a whole new lineup for the Class 2A-2 district schedule next football season.
The Knights will be seeing an eight-team district instead of the five teams that has been the norm for the past several seasons.
On the schedule this year will be Prague, Henryetta, Holdenville, Jones, Kellyville, Meeker, Okemah and Chandler.
“We will be in a tough district but look forward to that challenge,” said HHS coach Darin Johnson.
He said the new district alignment could make Class 2A the toughest for any team to come up with a state title.
“Class 2A will have not only it's own State Champion from last year (2016) but the Class 3A State Champion as well.”
Looking ahead Johnson said the Knights, “have a lot of work to do along with filling some holes on both sides of the ball created by graduation. We had to play a lot of younger kids this season and we are hoping the experience they got will help us as we prepare for our new district.”
Divided into eight districts, the rest of the new Class 2A lineup includes:
District 1: Hennessey, Alva, Chisholm, Newkirk, OK Centennial, Perry, Luther and OK Christian School.
District 3: Sperry, Dewey, Haskell, Kiefer, Beggs, Morris, Victory Christian and Caney Valley.
District 4: Adair, CHelsea, Chouteau, Kansas, Metro Christian, Nowata, Wyandotte and Salina.
