The feral hog problem is a statewide issue and part of Okmulgee County is no exception.
A recent study estimated between 617,000 and 1.4 million of the wild animals exist in the state.

To get a closer survey locally, Langston University is partnering with the Mvskoke Food Sovereignty Initiative.
Representatives will be meeting March 30 in Okmulgee.
The plans call for a survey to go to land owners who are experiencing Feral Swine Damage to their farming operations in this area. Information generated from this survey will be used by USDA and APHIS to develop strategies for reducing feral swine populations in Oklahoma.
