Thompson Roger 1As his fourth legislative session approaches, Sen. Roger Thompson has been appointed to another leadership position. Senate Pro Tempore Mike Schulz announced that the Okemah Republican would be serving as the chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Select Agencies along with the Appropriations Subcommittee on Finance. The committee oversees the budgets of all the state’s 89 non-appropriated agencies, boards, commissions, authorities and trusts.
“I’m honored to have been entrusted to lead this important committee,” said Thompson. “While these entities don’t receive state funds, they still account for $1.47 billion of the public’s money and we must ensure that those fees and other monies are used efficiently and responsibly.”
Thompson will also continue serving on the Appropriations, Education, Public Safety and Rules Committees. He is also the Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Caucus.
“The Senate is blessed with very talented and dedicated members who are committed to make Oklahoma an even better state. Senator Thompson’s leadership and attention to detail will serve him well as subcommittee chairman. I appreciate his willingness to take on this additional role and know he will do well in it,” said Schulz, R-Altus.
He serves on numerous national committees as well including the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Education Committee; the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) Education Committee; the NCSL Committee Task Force on State and Local Taxation; the Streamlined Multi-Sales and Use Tax Agreement Governing Board; the Council of State Governments (CSG) Fiscal & Economic Development Committee; and the NCSL Budgets and Revenue Committee.
