Maggie Jane (Whitlow) Baptiste, a resident of Tulsa, died March 25, 2018 in Tulsa at the age of 80. Maggie was born Jan. 11, 1938 in Dustin to Minnie (Harjo) Whitlow and Edward Whitlow.
She grew up in Dustin and attended Dustin Public Schools. After attending Chilocco Indian School and graduating, she made her home in Tulsa. She worked for over 30 years at Bama Pies in Tulsa as a baker. Maggie was married in Ardmore to Thomas Baptiste. Maggie was an active member of the Thewarle Indian Baptist Church in Dustin.
Maggie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Baptiste; son, Edward Burgess; granddaughter, Emily Rose Aquero; sisters, Alice Wattie, Sally Holuby, Wisey Roberts-Cox and Louanne Wildcat; brothers, Sam Whitlow, David Whitlow, Johnny Whitlow and Billy Joe Whitlow.
She is survived by one daughter, Sissy "Maude" Aguero of the home; one grandson, Harjo Burgess of the home; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Burgess; two grandsons, Carlos and David Aguero of South Glens Falls, New York; sister, Dorothy Whitlow of Glenpool; two brothers: William Whitlow of Edmond and Edward Eugene Whitlow and wife Irene of Cushing; by many nieces, nephews, greats and great greats alike; and a host of relatives.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at Thewarle Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Lee officiating.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Thewarle Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Lee officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Dustin Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
Pallbearers will be Clint Osceola, Stephen Osceola, Shane Holuby, Warren Quick, Victor Quick, Billy Quick, and Tim Thompson. Honorary bearers will be Sam Whitlow, Joe Holuby, Jerry Watashe, Donnie Hyslop, Barton Looney, Jim Burley, and David Bales.
