relay tnThe rain outside the Henryetta high school gym failed to dampen the spirits of Relay for Life participants inside Saturday. During the day-long event, there were games, music, dancing and plenty of food for everyone who attended.
This year the venue had to be moved from the football field due to the weather but the combined Henryetta and Okmulgee Relay still was able to raise money for the battle against cancer. A preliminary estimate of $27,000 was given after Relay closed down but there were still some f unds left to be collected.
The climax of Relay is always the luminaria ceremony that recognizes family and friends who have fallen victim or are currently battling cancer. This year, over 400 sacks bearing those names provided a multi-colored reminder as they spread across the bleachers glowing with multi-colored glow sticks.
