Following a half-hour executive session Friday morning, the Henryetta school board hired Bunyan Johnson to be the high school basketball coach for the coming year.
The decision was met with some dismay by Dustin Mosco and some
Mosco said he had 18 years in the system. “No one wants this job more than I do.” He pointed out that he has had 13 years as assistant coach. “I totally lose all respect for the whole system. I don’t understand it.”
David Bullard told Mosco,”we appreciate what you have done for the school. When we go back there (executive session) we try to take all the facts. I know it makes people upset with some of the decisions we have to do. We think you are awesome as tennis coach.”
Mosco’s wife Valerie said the decision was not fair. “Where’s the money going to come from?,” she asked. “Is he going to teach?
“We can’t talk about that,” said board president James Williams.
Johnson has been a coach at Beggs. He will be replacing Tim Gillespie as the boys coach when the 2018-19 season starts.
