Two members of the Oklahoma House of Representatives have come together to request a bipartisan study to compare and contrast Oklahoma’s educational system with other education systems across the country.
FetgatterRep. Scott Fetgatter, R-Okmulgee, and Rep. Collin Walke, D-OKC, hope to use the study to improve the way Oklahoma educates children.
“During our first two years as lawmakers, Representative Walke and I both realized that as a state, we can no longer afford to have republican ideas and democrat ideas,” Fetgatter said. “What we need are good ideas that are going to move this state in a better direction. I look forward to this study getting approved, and I can’t wait to work with Collin to find new ways to improve education in Oklahoma.”
The hope is that by looking at other states Oklahoma lawmakers will develop ideas and best practices to implement here.
“I am dedicated to ensuring that each and every student in Oklahoma receives a quality education,” Walke said. “This interim study will provide the legislature with the latest cutting-edge innovations in education so that we can make sure we are providing our students with the resources they need for the 21st Century.”
Speaker Charles McCall’s office is expected to announce approved interim studies no later than Friday, July 13, 2018.
