Merle Jean Morris, a resident of Henryetta, and a longtime former resident of Dewar died June 15, 2018 in Tulsa at the age of 82. She was born Feb. 10, 1936 to Albert Ritter and Olive (Durham) Ritter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John Morris and a brother Arthur Ritter.
Merle was a retired teacher having taught for many years at Dewar Public Schools. After her and John's retirement she traveled with John helping serve as sound technician for his Gospel singing groups. Merle attended the Dewar First Baptist Church.
She is survived by four children: Donna Fields and husband Harvey of Dewar, Dennis Morris and wife Mary Beth of Henryetta, Terry Morris and wife Debi of Henryetta and Michelle Winn and husband Roger of Morris; eight grandchildren: Kristen Long, Allison Palmer, Randy Morris, Milly Lilly, Sarah Stockholm, John David Cowan, Kyle Morris and Ambria Winn; 15 great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; two brothers: Albert "Butch" Ritter and wife Beverly of Henryetta and David Ritter and wife Brenda of Henryetta; sister: Billie Barron of Oklahoma City; as well as a host of friends and other relatives.
Viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
At Merle's request there will be no funeral service. However, friends are welcome to attend a brief committal service at noon, Thursday, June 21 at Westlawn Cemetery. Prayers of committal before and after burial will be done by Rev. Jack Vance and Rev. Ryan Wells. Arrangements are under direction and care of Integrity Funeral Service.
