He was described as a quiet man but one who loved working with horses and could get the most out of both horse and rider.
Addison Waddell was honored Sunday evening at a memorial at the Jim Shoulders Living Legends rodeo arena.
Around 50 people braved the stifling July heat to remember the man that had been both a champion competitor and nationally-known barrel race trainer.
Several people gave personal remembrances of Waddell and told about how they benefitted from his knowledge.
"We were able to help him get located in the Henryetta area," said Tammie Hiatt who organized the event.
The memorial was held on the arena floor with the barrel race cloverleaf patttern set up behind the stands.
A specially-written song about Waddell sung by composer Roy Madden closed out the memorial.
Waddell had a training facility east of town for a number of years.
We was shot and killed last month, an incident that sparked a several-days-long search for him as well as the individuals involved.
