Over 1,000 cross country runners packed Nichols Park Saturday morning for the Henryetta high school invitational meet.
The annual event pitted runners in 2A and 3A as well as 4A and 5A. The junior high school runners were also participating in their heats. Periods of misty rain failed to dampen enthusiasm as parents, grandparents and classmates urged the runners on.
Henryetta’s high school boys finished eighth in the overall point standings while the HHS girls took 11 as a team. The Henryetta Middle School boys finished in 13th place overall.
Austin Green turned in the best time for the HHS boys finishing 26th overall with a 3:57.0 in the 5K run. Behind him was Keaton Lollis with a 4:02.8, Riley Floyd finishing the course in 4:33.9, Grant Holder, 4:51.7, Dalton Key, 5:04.6 and Sam Crow, 5:37.6.
The HHS girls had freshman Alyssa Collett turn in the best time for the two-mile run with a 7:52.1. She was followed by Bayliegh Nye, 8:01; Jenna Berryhill, 9:23.5; Cheyanne Thomas, 8:36.4; Emily Stockholm, 8:43.9 and Kaylee Watson, 8:45.4.
In the junior high competition, the Henryetta Middle School girls had sixth grader Joslyn Stidman place 28th. She ran the mile in 7:10.4. Behind her was Raychel Morrison with a 7:29.6 and Gracie Lovell turning in a 9:22.2.
The HMS boys best time was 6:22.4 for the mile run by Justice Marlow. A fraction of a second behind him was Ethan Goodner with a 6:23.3, Wyatt Coy, 6:58.4, Tanner Napier with 7:45.1 and Austin Anderson, 8:08.4.
