Billy Ray Holt, former Henryetta football coach, died Sept. 15, 2018 at the age of 68.
He was born in McAlester Sept. 19, 1949 to Howard and Billie Beatrice Holt.
He was an Oklahoma teacher, coach, and athletic director for 41 years. His coaching career took him to Idabel, Texas and Henryetta, where he coached future NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, and Wilburton before returning to McAlester in 1990. He served on the boards of numerous organizations, including McAlester Main Street, McAlester Athletics Hall of Fame, and Old Town Association. He served as Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Billie Beatrice Holt, and by his brothers, Howard, Jr. and Timmy Holt.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie and their children and spouses, Ashley Holt Watts and Brad Watts, Aron and Rebecca Holt, and Avery Holt; their grandchildren Ella and Evan Watts; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and James Mullins, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sean and Kim Walker, in-laws Victor and Becky Walker; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Mary Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Scott Vandenheuvel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Billy Ray can be made to the Billy Ray Holt Scholarship Fund (in care of McAlester Public Schools Athletic Department, 200 E. Adams, McAlester, OK).
