Teachers rehired at Monday school board meeting

A three-hour executive session Monday night resulted in most of the teachers at Henryetta schools getting their jobs back.
The only two teachers on the initial list not rehired were Glenn Leist and Cody Prator. No reason was given for that action. Also rehired were the current support personnel.		 april-school-board
Board members called in the principals to discuss their respective teachers during the executive session.
Board president James Williams said the names of several teachers were inadvertently left off the list of those to be considered and would be discussed at the May meeting.
In other personnel action, the board hired Brittany Sellers and Dana Davis. Sellers will be the encumbrance clerk and Davis will handle the duties of fiscal services, school activity funds and finance clerk.
Resignations were accepted from Crystal Morris and Rochelle Ruth. Ruth had been the cashier at the Henryetta Early Childhood Center cafeteria for 17 years.
Video coverage of the school board meeting here. HHS baseball coach Keith Furer submitted his resignation from coaching duties for the remainder of the year. Furer has decided to step down from that position due to some health issues. He will remain as classroom teacher.
The board also approved Nichole Kinsey as coordinator for the Johnson O'Malley program for the remainder of the year. She told the board she would serve in that capacity without pay.
Members of the HHS Knight Brigade band will be going to Branson at the end of the month. Board member gave the okay for that trip from April 30 to May 2. Band members will be performing at the Dixie Stampede then enjoy a visit to Silver Dollar City.
Also gaining approval was a "Movie in the Park" fundraiser from the sophomore class. The project is hoped to raise some $2,000. Details will be announced later.
Board members could not come to a decision on seeking bids for an auditor for the school.
Jack jenkins was hired last year to do the school audit and, according to board member James Cox, "I lost confidence in him last year. He said there was no problems and he was hired to fix the problems."
Among those problems Cox said were not reporting that contracts did not meet payroll amounts. "There were a lot of things going on. He was aware of the problem as far as the contracts and payroll not matching. A school auditor should have caught that. For us to have the problems we had last year and he said no deficiencies."
"He went into it with no expectations as to what we specifically wanted to know," said board member Brandi Brown. "I think it is fair to give him another year and provide him with directions." She pointed out the board made the change because the prior auditing firm was late getting reports to the board.
Superintendent Dwayne Noble said he and board president James Williams talked with Jenkins and expressed their concerns. "If the board wants us to check specific things we need to tell him. We can tell him to pay attention to this and this."
The fifth board member, Brandy Cunningham, was unable to attend the meeting Monday.
Cox made the motion to put the auditor contract out for bid with Jeannie Duncan seconding it. The vote resulted in Cox and Duncan voting yes while Brown and Williams voted against it.
