A number of the Henryetta Performing Arts Student Association members recently made a trip to Tulsa to meet an HHS student who has become big on Broadway.
Jeremy Hays was in Tulsa holding a class in theatre arts. Because of his friendship with another HHS alum, Liz Bealko, he recruited Emma Sontag and MaKayla Baxter to be part of the class.
The PASA members watched as Sontag and Baxter performed for three hours of improv and instruction.
Hays is an actor, singer, writer and producer. His career has included recurring roles on several television shows and series. He made his roadway debut in the first revival of Les Misérables and went on to originate the role of Enjolras for the 25th Anniversary production at Paper Mill Playhouse and the subsequent national tour. He recently performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival as a soloist in Play It Again, Marvin a musical review of the music of Marvin Hamlisch. He toured the U.S. as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats. Regionally he has starred in productions of Into The Woods, Hair, Camelot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Oklahoma! and West Side Story. Jeremy is proud to have represented Les Misérables on "The 85th Annual Academy Awards" hosted by Seth MacFarlane as well as NBC's "America's Got Talent."
He has written two screenplays which are in development. "Buried Deep" is a modern western drama series set in rural Oklahoma. "Take The Black" is a comedic, mockumentary web-series about a down-on-their-luck band of cater waiters who have been recruited by the CIA.
The Henryetta native also founded the non-profit, non-partisan organization Broadway Votes which promotes voter registration and political involvement in the Broadway community.
