trash payments

The table above shows the payments to Centerpoint Landfill for the past three years. In July, 2017, the cost went up by over $300 and has been higher ever since.

Trash service is going to cost more for Henryetta residents.
the price went up from $15.75 to $18.75 following Tuesday night’s council meeting. That increase was said to be necessary because the city is currently losing money on trash service.
“That will just make us break even,” said mayor Jennifer Clason. She explained the city has been paying more to Centerpoint Landfill for over a year after a new contract went into effect.
Under the terms of that contract, Centerpoint would provide the city with a new trash truck but the rates would go up. “They gave us a truck and the next month we got a big whopping bill,” she said.
The issue of raising rates was first discussed in the September meeting with the city looking at the option of outsourcing trash service to another hauler. That would not take effect until next year because the city is under contract until the end of June, 2018 with Centerpoint. It was explained that outsourcing the work would also result in two city employees losing their jobs.
The new rate is said to be still less costly than being paid by rural residents. Councilor Christy Jeffcoat said it costs $22 monthly to have trash picked up outside the city limits.
Clason said this is, “the first time in a long time,” the trash rates have been raised. At the end of the day, we were elected to do what is in the best interest of the city and that means being fiscally responsible.”
