bagpipeswThe mournful skirl of the bagpipes echoed through downtown Henryetta Sunday morning as Kent Pharoah and George Rice marked the 100th anniversary of the Nov. 11, 1918 armistice. The pair performed "When the Battle's O'er," a retreat march written by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders just for the centennial. They were joined by other pipers around the world at 6 a.m. Sunday morning all playing the same tune. Pharoah, a Vietnam era veteran, selected the doughboy monument as the appropriate place to perform.
