Henryetta's FFA chapter pocketed $1,000 and has added another honor after the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and Oklahoma Beautiful cited the group for their efforts cleaning up at Nichols Park.
FFA members installed flower beds and planted various types of flowers. They also teamed up with Muscogee Creek Nations Recycling Center to cleanup the park. FFA and 4-H members picked up 16lbs of plastic, 18 lbs of mixed paper, 6 lbs of aluminum cans, 7 lbs of glass, 9 lbs of trash.
“We are already planning some ideas for our next community service project for the Great American Cleanup,” said Cody Dawson, Henryetta FFA Advisor.
Henryetta FFA used two grants for their work at Nichols Park. The National FFA awarded them a $1,200 Living to Serve Grant for purchasing equipment for flower beds and Keep Oklahoma Beautiful awarded them with a $175 grant with gloves, safety vests, trash bags, recycling bags, buckets, and gardening equipment.
