By Rebecca Hold,
Regent and Publicity Chairman,
Okemah Chapter of DAR
Ruth Newport and Carla Schooling were hostesses for the November 13 meeting of the Okemah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah. The tables were beautifully decorated with seasonal Thanksgiving décor and cute little red, white, and blue pails of candy treats.
After Regent Rebecca Hold led the opening ritual, flag salute, and the National Anthem, Regent Hold and Chaplain Susan Barnett conducted a beautiful candlelight memorial service for dear member Gene Merideth, who recently passed this life after being a member of the Okemah chapter for 44 years. The memorial table was adorned with a beautiful 5 arm candelabra, a designer cross, and a portrait picture of Gene at her last meeting of DAR.
Members were reminded of their dues for the incoming year, and Regent Hold reported that on Veteran’s Day she and Dorothy Haynes visited Fountainview Nursing Home and Bono’s Nursing Home in Henryetta and gave treats and cards to 13 veterans honoring them for their service. It was very rewarding to see how much the vets enjoyed our visits.
After the close of the meeting Patricia Funchess won the main door prize.
Our next meeting will be hosted by June Yahola and Geneva Bertges on January 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah. Prospective members are welcome at our meetings and assistance will be given to help complete membership applications. Please call Chapter Regent Rebecca Hold at 918-650-5466 for information.
