Once again Henryetta city officials are celebrating as the January sales tax check showed another gain.
The first check of 2019 was $251,536.88, an increase of $16,814 from last year’s number. It was also the 14th consecutive month that retail sales were above the previous year’s figures.
At the same time, the use tax return was on the positive note. This month the city received $224,839.73, a $4,463 gain from last year.
The county return was $381,516.42, a gain of over $70,000 from last year’s numbers. Okmulgee’s city return took an $18,424 loss with $517,992 coming back compared to $536,417 a year ago.
Neighboring Dewar picked up a check for $10,288.51, a dip of $1,080 from January, 2018.
Statewide, $164,563,429 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $10,914,363 from the $153,649,066 distributed to the cities and towns in January last year.
Those collections represent local tax receipts from November business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from November 16 to November 30 and estimated sales from December 1 to December 15.
