Henryetta chamber of commerce members celebrated the end of another year Monday night as they held their annual banquet and awards presentations.
First Family Federal Credit Union was named the Business of the Year marking their recent completion of the new office building at Fourth and Main.
First Family was recognized for “demonstrating their faith in Henryetta and becoming a catalyst for other businesses on Main Street, by emcee Jeremy Roberts. The award was given to David Dykes along with nine other FFFCU staff members attending the dinner.
Outgoing officers, David Dykes, Keith Estes, Donnie Smith and Bruce Jones were given plaques for their work this past year. Outgoing chamber president Dirk Palmer received his plaque from incoming chamber president Lora Meins.
Jones was also named Member of the Year. Roberts said Jones “volunteers his talents to helping the chamber and the community.”
Jones was also named Henryettan of the Year in the annual presentation by the Henryetta Free Lance.
Newspaper graphic designer Kerri Bailey, pointed out this is the 75th year for the award. “We take this honor seriously. It showcases someone who has diligently tried to make our community a better place. They have given themselves tirelessly in what this town has to offer.”
Jones has served on several boards and committees including the Henryetta Economic Development Authority, the tourism and legislative forum chamber committees.
Bailey pointed out Jones has been in newspapers for his adult life beginning in 1966 at the Free Lance as sports editor. “He has actively supported Henryetta school programs. He has made sure parents, faculty and citizens of the community be involved through his online news site.”
She pointed out two accomplishments included naming local highways for Petty Officer Tony Randolph and Lance Corporal Anthony Grundy.
