Usually a third place trophy is nice but, when it is won against larger schools, it is a major accomplishment.
That's what the HHS girls tennis team came home with this past week.
The girls captured third just four points behind Ada and 13 points away from Heritage Hall. They were competing in the Shawnee 5A tournament.
The Lady Knights had fourth place wins in the number 1 and 2 singles and number 1 doubles and a fifth place victory in number 2 doubles.
In the number 1 singles race, Fallon Rodgers started with a win against Choctaw then faced off against Ada's Taylor Wood in the semi-finals after moving ahead when Byng's Lanie McGaha declared an injury.
Rodgers lost 0,3 and 10-7 to Ada throwing her into the third place bracket against Putnam City North. She ahd to settle for fourth with a 4,1 loss.
The number 2 singles saw Shelby Gaddy win over Byng, 3,0 then take a 2,3 win over Ponca City North. She lost to Ada 1,1 to go into the third place contest with Durant. Gaddy lost that match 3,1.
The number 1 HHS doubles team of King and Padgett started out with a 1,2 win over Tahlequah then defeated Byng 0,5 and 10-7. They lost 0,2 to Enid. In the third place bracket, they ran into Tahlequah's second team losing 4,1 and 10-2.
The Henryetta number 2 doubles team of Bain and Britt won over Tahlequah then lost to Durant forcing them into the fifth place side of the Brackets. They took a 3,4 win over Byng then downed McAlester 1,1 for that fifth place spot.
