Wilson, Dewar and Henryetta schools have special veterans day programs lined up to celebrate the sacrifices, dedication and service by area men and women.
Wilson will start off the recognition Thursday with a luncheon at the school from 11:30 to 12:30. That will be followed by a program at the school gymnasium at 12:45.
Dewar students will hold the annual Veteran's Day assembly at 9:30 at the Dewar First Baptist Church. It will be followed by a breakfast at the church for all veterans.
In addition to the program by the students, a special dedication ceremony will be held honoring former Dragon athlete and graduate Sgt. Michael Crawford. He died in a 1971 helicopter crash in Vietnam that claimed his life along with 33 other U.S. soldiers.
State Senator Roger Thompson will present a replica of the two signs designating U.S. 266 through Dewar as the "Sgt. Michael Crawford Memorial Highway."
Monday morning, Nov. 11, the Henryetta school will hold a program in the auditorium starting at 9 a.m. That will feature several musical tributes as well as speeches by high school students.
All veterans are invited to attend any or all of the special observances.
