Some two dozen area veterans representing alll branches of the military were the guests of honor Thursday at Wilson school.
Students treated the veterans with a luncheon in the cafeteria and visited with them about their service.
That was followed by an all-school assembly in the gym where the students read poems, sang and presented gifts to the guests.
One veteran, Barton Williams, was honored posthumously with a special wresth-laying ceremony. Williams was a strong supporter of the Wilson school district and died last month. An Army Airborne soldier, he saw battle in several engagements in Vietnam. A red, white and blue wreath with his photograph was placed in his preferred seat in the gym and will be there for all the school's home games.
