Dec. 4, Hillcrest Hospital authorities are going to be celebrating the end of a two-year long $3.9 million upgrade.
The final phase, renovation of the emergency room area will be the subject of an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. with hospital staff members on hand to give tours and explain what services are now being offered.
Work on the emergency department included adding new examination rooms as well as giving hospital staff more room to provide tests and serve the area. It now provides 60 percent more room and gives patients added privacy and doctors more room to treat them.
That change started in 2018 when the old emergency room doors were closed to the public and all walk-in cases funneled through the front door. From there, patients could be sent to the areas for specific treatment.
Hospital administrator Dee Renshaw said the need for a more modern, updated emergency department has become necessary with the increase in patient load. He pointed out nearly 9,000 patients sere served by the emergency department in 2017 alone.
The public is invited to visit the hospital during the open house and receive a tour of the new facility.
