Anyone going to Nichols Park Sunday saw a lot of activity as the Nichols Park Winter Classic got underway. There were 132 contestants representing cities and towns from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Indiana throwing their discs at the baskets around the entire park.
Ten divisions had participants making it one of the largest in the fledgling disc golf course.
Bo Tillman from Edmond was the winner of the open division shooting 14-under for the two rounds. Second went to Coda Hatfield from Norman with Randy Forsander from Tulsa placing third.
The pro masters 40 and up was won by Kyle Wilkes, Broken Arrow, who had a 106 score for the two rounds. Eric Rainey, Broken Arrow, and Doug Masfield, Mustang, tied for second.
In the pro masters 50 plus, Tuttle’s Brett Yackeschi had a 108 score for first. Lewis Estrada, Yukon, and Trevor Swink, Nichols Hills, tied for second.
Oklahoma CIty’s Jonathan Amos came in one-under for first in the advanced competition.
First place in the amateur Masters 40+ went to Robert Tate from McKinney, Tex., while Randy McNeely, Choctaw, placed second.
Steve Alvis, Oklahoma City, was first in the Amateur Masters 50+ and Charles Chung, Coweta, took first in the amateur masters 60+ competition.
Daniel Cuevas, Krebs, had eight-under to take first in the intermediate contest. Jeffrey Jones, Owasso, finished second with 4-under.
Jillian Newman, Edmond, was first in the intermediate women class and Carson May from Oklahoma City was first in the recreational class.
“This was a great turnout. Everyone enjoyed the course,” said Joshua Craig. He is the course designer and the driving force behind staging the tournament.
