For a number of years there has problems with street flooding on East Main due to a clogged storm drain line.
“It is a nightmare,” said mayor Jennifer Munholland. She said the project is going to be an expensive one with one estimate at $356,000.
The project entails moving the storm drain around the east side of Taco Bell then south to Coal Creek. Currently the line runs under property owned by both Taco Bell and McDonalds.east main
Adding to the complication is the lack of records showing the exact location for the line and when it was installed. “We don’t have any records it. ODOT doesn’t have any records,” she said. The drains do not show if the line was put in by private individuals.
At the Tuesday night city council meeting, she said the city is trying to find grant money or loans that would cover the cost. “If we have our city crews do it, it is going to cost between $120,000 and $130,000.”
She went on to say Taco Bell and McDonalds have been warned against filling it in since they could be sued if flooding damage occurred.”That’s what happens when you have old infrastructure thats been neglected and you try to update it.”
The project was the subject of a preliminary study by Myers Engineering that has already cost the city $7,816.
A sewer line between Warren Road and High Street from 6th to 8th streets is going to be replaced.
“This is something we have been working on,” Munholland said. She said the line failed a long time ago and had been getting repairs.
That project is going to cost $49,822.
During the recent snow and ice event, city crews spread 250 tons of salt and sand.
The city is working with PSO to replace lighting at Caboose Park.
