On the heels of a decline in sales tax receipts in March, Henryetta saw a hefty boost from the state in April.
The town received $247,260.03 for the April sales tax distribution. That was an increase of $26,017.02 above last year and $49,000 above the check received in March. The March check was $206,224.81, a drop of some $2,000 from March 2019.
The April distribution is based primarily February business reported to the state in March. The effects of the coronavirus closures will partially be seen in the May report and is expected to have a major effect on the June numbers.
Henryetta’s use tax for April amounted to $21,575, a slight gain over the $20,324 a year ago.
Around the area, Okmulgee had a positive return of $497,279, up about $23,000;
Dewar received $11,585, a gain of $1,818 last year;
Beggs was down slightly receiving $36,056 compared to $37,327;
Morris also reported a drop, $16,415 this year compared to $19,056 last year;
Okemah reported a decline with $90,344 this year compared to $121,836 a year ago. That drop in dollars was largely due to a change in the tax rate from 3.5 cents to 3 cents that went into effect earlier this year;
Weleetka received $22,136, up from $18,076 last year;
Checotah received $335,805, a gain from $313,371 in April 2019.
Statewide, $146,931,074 was returned and reflected an decrease of $894,385 from the $147,825,459 in 2019.
