Dixie Jean Wilhite, a resident of Morris, died June 21, 2020 in Muskogee at the age of 90. She was born June 4, 1930 to William McIver and Rosa Lillian Edwards. Dixie was a graduate of Morris High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. She married Everett "Skeet" Wilhite Feb. 2, 1953 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Dixie was a resident of Morris for 87 years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Morris where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She also sang in a trio with Carolyn Parker and Janet Matthews. She was a member of the Flower Club, the Painting Club, a Red Cross Volunteer for over 50 years, she volunteered regularly at Rebold Manor with Pauline McGowen. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, later ATandT from 1948 until her retirement in 1971. Later she worked as a store clerk at Reynolds Hardware in Morris until 2010.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosa Edwards, husband Everett "Skeets" Wilhite, siblings, John, Juanita, Orville Ray, Oweta, Dean, Randall and Charlotte.
Dixie is survived by four sons: John Wilhite and wife Lynn of Adelaide, Australia, Dennis Wilhite and wife Angela of Muskogee, Don Wilhite and wife Chris of Morris, and Timmy Wilhite of Verdigris,; nine grandchildren: Melissa Dankenburg and husband Kent, Michael Wilhite and wife Shawna, Erin Wortham and husband Justin, Megan Wilhite, Thomas Atchity, Miranda Bly and husband Jeremy, Zachary Wilhite, Blake WIlhite, and Kayetlyn Wilhite; six great-grandchildren: Dylan Wortham, Ace Wilhite, Kara Wortham, Jax Wilhite, Charity Bly, and Lexi Bly; and one sister, Barbara McIver of Checotah.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25 at Integrity Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Michael Wilhite, Zachary Wilhite, Blake WIlhite, Jeremy Bly, Thomas Atchity, and Kent Dankenburg. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Flanary, Larry Bookout, Jimmie Lee, Glenn Robbins, Dr. Clayton Flanary, and Bruce Force.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m, Friday, June 26, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Morris with Rev. Ray Moffeit officiating. Interment will follow in New Sonora Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
