Cora Lee Ashton, a resident of Eufuala, died June 26, 2020 at the age of 92. She was born Jan. 30, 1928 in Headrick, Okla., to Golden O. Smith and Lena M. (Frair) Smith. She lived most of her childhood in Dustin.
She had four sisters and six brothers of which two sisters have survived her. Cora first married Ray W. Coonce with whom she had four children. She later married Tom Ashton in Wichita, Kans., and upon retirement returned to the town of Dustin. Cora worked in the food industry, serving as head cook for St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic School for many years, then as lead line chef for Boeing Industries in Wichita until retirement. Cora was very involved with youth sports; coaching girls basketball and baseball teams for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Randy R. Coonce.
She is survived by her son, Wilbert L. Coonce; daughter, Lois M. Pahia and husband Reggie; grandchildren: Ray, Shawn and Kyle,
R. Kamaki, Lehua, Glenda S. Butterfield, Eric Burkeholder, Ryan and Brianne, as well as 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters: B. Lizziebeth Looper and Maudine Johnson; daughter-in-law, Terri W. Coonce; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Hanna Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service in Henryetta.
The family would request donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Cora’s recently deceased son, Randy Coonce.
