anniversary vfw

The Henryetta VFW Post 539 is one of the oldest in Oklahoma.
That was pointed out Saturday when the post received a certificate commemorating the century anniversary of the veterans organization.
That presentation was made by state VFW junior vice commander Jeremy Owens and state VFW surgeon Stacy Reddig. Accepting the award was post commander Bill Goodner as well as members of the post.
Owens pointed out the centennial presentation is, “a very momentous occasion when you realize the national VFW is only 114 years old.”
A second 100 year award was presented to VFW Post 474 from Muskogee.
In the presentation, Owens read from a prepared statement by the state commander that pointed out, “no one is more deserving of assistance than American veterans, service members and their families.”
He pointed out that a lot has changed in the 100 years since the posts were organized. “We are talking about the men and women who served together then came home and organized these posts.”
He pointed out members of the post are, “a pillar of support for Henryetta. Year after year you have provided invaluable support to those who have borne the battle as well their families.”
Henryetta post auxiliary president Donnie McKay and the auxiliary chapter 531 received a “Circle of Achievement” medal 2019-2020. That covers membership and other accomplishments. A similar award was earned by the Eufaula VFW Auxiliary.
Certificates were away presented to the Henryetta Auxiliary for achievements in participation in the Buddy Poppy program asa well as others.
The presentations were made prior to the district meeting.
